Introducing... mr. moqo
April 17th, 2009
mr. moqo, a new design studio headed by noted designer Robert von Bjal, has opened in Chicago. The studio’s focus, according to von Bjal, will be a unique blend of graphic design and animation principles he calls designimation. “I am not mr. moqo, but I can speak on his behalf,” states von Bjal. “We see the need for a more purposeful approach to motion graphic design, one where style and movement enhance an idea, not replace one.” mr. moqo will offer to entertainment and advertising clients its specialties in animated typography, mnemonics, branding and identity systems. Before launching mr. moqo, von Bjal worked at Red Car Chicago for nearly three years, serving as co-design director with his wife Melissa von Bjal, who is now the art director of the Oprah Winfrey Show. Previously, he spent seven years as design director at Somersault in Chicago. His award-winning work has spanned music videos, broadcast, film, video games, print, advertising and the web. Past clients include MTV, ESPN, Fox, Cartoon Network, Warner Brothers, Disney, Philip Morris, Levis, Wired, Motorola, Subway, Coca-Cola, Pepsico, MillerCoors, and many others.
mr. moqo’s design studio will be sharing space at 211 East Grand Avenue with two other companies, fxphd and Hootenanny, allowing seamless creative collaboration between the media companies. von Bjal says, “I know that Hootenanny and fxphd are drawing on each other to create some great work, and I plan to add to the mix. It’s a very cool, comfortable environment to work in.” Handling the producing role for mr. moqo will be Executive Producer Don Avila.
